As an IP Engineer I, Bill Hartnett monitors and analyzes day-to-day operational issues and anomalies affecting end-customer network performance and assists in Network design solutions for new customer installations and projects.
When I was fresh out of school, I had a job at a machine shop in Pittsburgh. I learned the detailed functionality of CNC machines, overhead cranes, heat treating, and some welding. I learned to use various electronic instruments such as oscilloscopes and other signal generators and an assortment of hand tools such as micrometers and dial calipers. My colleagues were mainly 30+ years older than me and had worked in the Steel Mills in the 70s and 80s. I learned a whole lot about life in a short amount of time from those folks. I embraced what I learned and started down the path of tech & engineering.
I played in a rock n roll band for 10+years and loved performing on stage.
I like to snowboard, play guitar, mountain bike, fish, and ride quads in my spare time. I love being outside and staying active.

My favorite project so far is the newest product launched for DQE: Fiber@Home. I’ve enjoyed learning about this product and look forward to providing high-speed, reliable Internet to people’s homes.
I wanted to be a part of a company that was growing. A company whose vision, mission, and values aligned with my own. When I first looked at DQE, the company had expanded its fiber miles two-fold in a short amount of time. This rapid growth attracted my interest. I needed to be a part of a company where I could grow my career, apply my talents, and expand my responsibilities. DQE and I are a good fit. I think it’s been working out well for us.
