Static routing works for straightforward environments. BGP peering, OSPF, policy-based routing, and dual-WAN failover are available when a site needs more.

How It Gets Deployed

Most sites use one of these three designs. DQE works with you to confirm which one fits during solution design.

Single DIA Circuit

One WAN connection into the FortiGate, which acts as the managed router and provides stateful firewall functionality with a default route to the DQE circuit.

Dual-WAN with Automatic Failover

Two WAN circuits into the same appliance, with the primary carrying traffic and the secondary taking over on its own if the primary drops.

  • Automatic failover to a better-performing path
  • Secondary circuit can be DQE-provided or your own

Dual WAN suits sites where an internet outage stops work, and it’s available on Professional and Elite.

BGP Peering with DQE

Dynamic routing between your FortiGate and the DQE network, exchanging routes over eBGP.

Which Appliance Fits the Site

Built for Networks That Can’t Go Down

DQE has been building fiber for hospitals, utilities, and public safety since 1997, and that’s the same network your managed router connects to. More than 4,700 route miles reach over 3,500 on-net buildings across Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Maryland, built to utility standards because the customers we started with couldn’t afford anything less.

Our NOC watches every managed device continuously, tracking interface state, link quality, latency and packet loss, device health, license status, and BGP session status where it applies. Availability targets run 99.9% for standard deployments and 99.99% for fully redundant designs, with a four-hour mean time to repair and a 30-minute response on critical incidents at every tier.

Managed SD-WAN includes everything in Managed Router and adds a WAN overlay, dynamic path selection, and site-to-site connectivity across multiple locations. Managed Firewall adds intrusion prevention, application control, web filtering, antivirus, and DNS security to the same appliance, either alongside Managed Router or on its own.
